Cool The Bronx is Burning

Did anyone watch any of the 1st episode? I saw most of it..but I conked out in the last few minutes...

Now I grew up watching that team.....And I must say that the show is just awful.

All 3 of the main characters are just bad caricatures...I really find it embarassing and hard to watch....

I mean, Billy Martin had big ears, but that big? And Oliver Platt's impression of George Steinbrenner is nothing more than the comedy portrayal of him in Seinfeld.

What does everybody else think?

Re: The Bronx is Burning

I didn't see it but with ESPN's track record in such series', I didn't plan on checking it out.

However, I'm looking forward to that Brooklyn Dodgers show on HBO tomorrow evening. Looks interesting.

Re: The Bronx is Burning

The commercials for it, plus Playmakers, was enough to convince me to not bother tuning in.

Re: The Bronx is Burning

The guy playing Reggie Jackson looks like he weighs about 150 pounds.

Re: The Bronx is Burning

I actually enjoyed it, I liked they also included "Son of Sam" serial killer in the movie..dude terrorized new york city in the late 70's, confessing to killing 6 and injuring others, though im sure thats all they could prove, im sure he got away with some others..

Yep, that and Martin's ears are a bit much...I lived in Tarrytown New York in 1977...I remember the season played out on TV up there....this show does not do it justice.

Re: The Bronx is Burning

The Son of Sam, David Berkowitz, told the cops that a neighbor's dog told him to kill people, but later confessed to FBI profiler John Douglas that he did that to appear insane and avoid a death sentence.

Re: The Bronx is Burning

I tried to watch it, but couldn't keep my eyes off of Martin's ears. What the heck?

This is Billy Martin (and Jackson):

Talk about an exaggeration...

The show was too "soap-opera-ish" for me, so I couldn't watch all of it.

Cool Re: The Bronx is Burning

Plus the actor who plays Martin, John Taturo was in that movie "Secret Window" with Johnny Depp and played that creepy character in Depps imagination...The voice is so unmistakable I can't get it out of my head when I'm watching this guy....

LOVED the Junction Boys and the one about the 3-minute mile they did. Never saw 3 or the Pete Rose one they did. Didn't care for Playmakers.

Re: The Bronx is Burning

I liked the junction boys, but that was it. I hated every other one I have seen. ESPN should just stick to showing sports and highlights. 3 and Pete Rose should be an embarassment to them.

Yeah, I had such high hopes for ESPN's stuff after Junction Boys, but most of it has sadly been subpar, to put it nicely.
