I believe the size issue that ultimately must be addressed is the hits/games ratio. I can't recall the number of games played back then but the 120 figure jumps out at me. 257 hits versus 120 games and 262 versus 162 games ??? Percentage wise I'll go with Sisler. What was the number of games in the 20's ?? |

But you bring up an interesting point...Ichiro does stretching etc and workouts beyond what today's players do...maybe he holds his peak better than today's players. |

| Re: Why Ichiro Rocks and Sisler Sucks! That season of George Sisler's was absolutely insane. He hit .407! Two years later he hit .420! But, I think it's completely unfair to compare players from the 1920s to today's players. The athletes today are so much better. The pool of athletes now is world wide where in the 1920s it was pretty much just white guys from the United States. Not that white guys from the United States aren't good, but when you limit the pool to ONLY that, then you don't get the best players. The pitchers today are better. The fielders are better. The gloves are better. No way would Sisler have hit .420 in today's game. What Ichiro has done so far is amazing. Why can't both be stellar? I say they are. |
