Cool 2006 MLB Predictions: AL EAST

Yankees: Even without Pavano, the starting pitching is deep. They're built for the regular season. The problem is, are they built for October.

Red Sox: If Schilling reverts to form, they could win the division.

Jays: If the Yankees and Red Sox are not careful, this team may catch one of them. Their offense is improved with Overbay and Glaus. The pitching is greatly improved with the addition of BJ Ryan and AJ Burnett ( scheduled to miss a couple of starts).

Devil Rays: They have one hell of an offense and Scott Kazmir but not much else.

Orioles:: The offense is good but their pitching leaves something to be desired.

The Jays just don't have enough offense to beat the powerhouses that are the Yankees and Red Sox! Yanks will win the division, closely followed by the Red Sox.

Re: 2006 MLB Predictions: AL EAST

Apologies for getting this in late; i realize the season is .62% or so finished, but i always procrastinate with my baseball picks for some reason. (As though seeing the opening-day results will really help...)

1. Gotta be the Yankees -- Joe Torre says this is the best Yankee lineup he's seen. Be that as it may, who starts after the aging Big Unit and Mike Mussina.

2. Red Sox

3. Blue Jays

4-5. Orioles and Devil Rays, pick 'em -- But the Rays cannot finish higher than .450. If so, the end is nigh and only "real wrath of god-type stuff" can result. It Is Written. Hey, what's the over/under on Lou Piniella quitting?

Re: 2006 MLB Predictions: AL EAST

Hard to pick against the Yanks after yesterday's display, but I've got the feeling that the Sox will be nipping at their heels most of the year. Either one could ultimately take it. Jays will be a somewhat distant third - I just don't think they're as improved as most people claim they are. Burnett will be a bust.
