Re: Ask The Experts ... MLB

If you are a runner on second base and the ball gets hit to the shortstop...when are you supposed to run? I've seen runners go and stay with varying degrees of success. What's proper baseball etiquette?

The way players are taught, if you're on 2nd and the ball is hit in front of you (to 3rd or short), stay on the base and see how the play unfolds. If you're on 2nd and the ball is hit behind you (2nd or 1st), take off for third.

Of course during the playoffs, I've seen a few players who forgot that and have gotten thrown out at third lol.

Amazing that they're so late - didn't they used to handle the awards during the World Series?

If I remember, I think they are a little early. I always thought they were announced at the winter meetings.

CC Sabathia has been traded at the perfect time for me to ask this question

what if he had been voted to the AL All-Star team ?

Wow, simon, that's a really great question. One I don't know the answer too off the top of my head.
I'll see if I can find an answer, but if I had a guess, I'd say he could play for the AL if he wanted to put would most likely withdraw.

Re: Ask The Experts ... MLB

"im not so sure about this one .... but i have heard on strike 3 if the catcher drops the ball the hitter can still go to 1st base and be safe if the catcher doesnt tag him or throw him out

is that correct .. and if so why ?"

On a dropped third strike, the batter can only go to first base if there is no one there. If there happen to be two outs, the batter can go to first anyway, even if there is a runner already on first. This of course means that the runner on first has to go to second.

To get the batter out, the fielder has to either tag the runner, or throw to first base.

Re: Ask The Experts ... MLB

How many foul balls does a batter get anyway?

If the runner at first is leading off, and pitcher throws ball to first baseman, does the first baseman have to tag the runner for the out?

Yes

Is Bette watching the Cubs whoop up on the Brewers?
