Cal Ripken Jr - Tony Gwynn Make Hall Of Fame

Cal Ripken Jr and Tony Gwynn both made the MLB HOF today......but no one else did

on top of that, neither one of them got 100%

these voters need their heads checked

So am I the only one who thinks it is entirely unfair that the voters left McGwire out of the Hall?

They are a bunch of holier than thou phonies trying to send a message that nobody cares about. The ones that didn't vote for Ripken should have their ballots revoked or they should be checked for symptoms of dementia.

At least Cal and Tony got in... this keeping the HOF uber-exclusive, though, really stinks. 4-5 guys at least should get in every year, just like in football, and Big Mac certainly should be one of them.

Who would possibly vote against them and for what inane reason? Well that aside this is a great day that 2 legends get their due into immortality and give us a moment to remember how great they were as players and what a rarity that type of player is nowadays. Congrats guys!

It's totally fair McGwire used steroids he shouldn't be inducted into the Hall Of Fame

Re: Cal Ripken Jr - Tony Gwynn Make Hall Of Fame

Every era had its problems. The rules were vastly different as were the playing fields in the pre-1920s. The ball was juiced up for the Great Depression to get people in the stands, skewing those hitting stats and the players from the Sixties on had the advantage of all sorts of chemical helpers to get them up for games. Never mind that prior to 1947 and even beyond that the best white players did not have to face the best minority players. There is NEVER a level playing field in any facet of competition, that's just life. Let McGuire in next year.

Even if we knew with 100% certainty that Big Mac used steroids, were they against baseball rules when he took them? No? Then the voters need to shut up, quit their little righteous protest and put him in. The more and more I think about this, the more and more convinced I am that it's completely unethical to hold someone to a standard that wasn't even in place until after his retirement.

Most players don't admit to cheating during their career.

That's my point, Marc. He WASN'T cheating, because he wasn't breaking the existing rules at that time.

Talking Re: Cal Ripken Jr - Tony Gwynn Make Hall Of Fame

It is better to have those two baseball player make it than all the other steroid taking wannabes (ex. Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmiero). It is good to see two genuine players make it into the hall of fame, without the help of a steroid of any sort.
