| Re: Unwritten Rules And Cheating In Baseball This is one of the posts that makes you scratch your head. I do not see much of a base for this, as why would MLB have a rule, no killing somebody...you think if they kill somebody Bud Selig would suspend them...and on steroids, the law didn't do a darn thing about it, so baseball didn't either. I just wish congress would keep their nose out ofd sports, but that's a whole 'nother story....This is not an issue, as they can't keep a lawbook from the US in their rulebook....weird lol

| Re: Unwritten Rules And Cheating In Baseball Don't worry simon, I get what you're asking -- how can something banned by law not also violate the rules of a sport like baseball. It's something I've wondered myself. And why haven't though who have admitted using and illegally trafficing these substances been prosecuted. It's something I've often wondered myself, and sadly, I've never been able to come up with a decent answer.

Why wouldn't congress get involved. There is obvious evidence that laws were being broken and nothing was getting done about it. I don't think they had any choice, but get involved. All they did was jumpstart what should have been done all along. They gave them an option. Clean up your own backyard or we will do it for you. |

| Re: Unwritten Rules And Cheating In Baseball Of course there is the opposite side of the coin, where the law exonerates a player and baseball proceeds with its own prosecution. 1919 "Black Sox" is of course the best example, but this really doesn't happen anymore....at least I can't think of a recent example. Do you suppose that's a reflection of the idea that MLB no longer cares to uphold its original wholesome image as "America's Pastime?" I can see the rationale behind this....after all, bad publicity is great publicity, especially in sports. |

| Re: Unwritten Rules And Cheating In Baseball How silly of me to forget about Pete Rose. Beginning this year, though, if he gets reinstated, he will be eligible for consideration to the HOF by the Veteran's Committee. So it's not over for him....hopefully. |

| Re: Unwritten Rules And Cheating In Baseball Make it $2.00 and you have a deal. I have a theoretical question. If these are unwritten rules that aren't publicized, then how would you know about them? |
