Most Overpaid MLB Player

USA Today has a list of the top 25 player salaries of 2005. Click it and take a look. Who do you think was the most overpaid player?

I think Mussina was the most overpaid. He posted a 4.44 ERA, in just 179.2 IP. Yet, he still made $19 mil, base pay.

There's also Darren Driefort, too. He was slated to make $13.4 mil in 2005, but never played, having surgery. The Dodgers paid him a lot of money for a career 4.36 ERA guy. But, it still doesn't beat Mussina.

Any other thoughts? What about most overpaid in general? They don't have to be on that list, although, I'm sure you could find them there.

Yeah, but Mussina has had success in NY. Dreifort hasn't pitched more than a handful of innings in the last several years. Dreifort is by far the bigger bust. ESPN had him as the biggest bust in baseball a while back.

Re: Most Overpaid Player

At least Mussina is still a good pitcher. What about 15 mil for Chan Ho Park, who hasn't had a season with an ERA 4.00 or under since 2001.

Kevin Brown stands out for me. He not only lived on the disabled list, when he did pitch he got lit up, including key games in the playoffs. Sosa, at 17 million for his 2005 year, can't be ignored.

I totally agree, legend. Kevin Brown didn't deserve any form of salary after last year's attrocious performances...

Re: Most Overpaid MLB Player

My vote goes to Sammy Sosa. I'm sure if my vote counts because he is retiring but all that fame went right to his head. Sammy Sosa doesnt deserve half of what he gets.

Re: Most Overpaid MLB Player

Dreifort collected $55 million over the past 5 years with the Dodgers. He pitched just over 400 innings in that span. I think Mussina was worth every penny of $19 million compared to Dreifort. After the Dreifort experience, it's hard to believe the Dodgers saw fit to give JD Drew the contract they did.
