Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

*coughs* Hey, I guessed the Marlins a while back, I should get to ask a trivia question now!

But anyway.... the five teams who have never won a pennant are:

Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Texas Rangers
Washington Nationals ( unless we are counting the Expos)
Houston Astros
hmmm..... ummm... Colorado Rockies? Or Chicago Cubs?

Nobody has the correct five yet.

Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

I can list the:

Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Washington Nationals
Colorado Rockies
Florida Marlins

as teams that have never won a penant. I can't think of a fifth team. I know that the Angels have become the LA Angels of Anaheim, but in its first year of existence, they won the penant.

So, all I can give you are those four. I know they haven't ever won a penant. If anyone can come up with the fifth, they have it.

Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

I am a bit confused as to just how you define pennant. In my lifetime, it always meant winning the AL or NL and playing in the world series. Obviously, that is not the case here for this trivia question because there are more than 5 teams without a pennant in their history.

Tampa Bay
Colorado
Washington Nationals
Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers

A pennant is winning your league and playing in the World Series

Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

Ok then, when did the Astros win a pennant? Was it in the days when they were the Washington Senators?

Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

Okay, I cheated and looked it up. The five teams who've never won the pennant are: Devil Rays, Rockies, Mariners, Expos/Nationals and Rangers. Whoever answered that first wins. The Astros won the pennant in 2005.

The Astros were the Houston Colt .45s before becoming the Astros in the mid 60s.

What day of the year is there absolutely no professional sports played? There is only one day to my recollection.

Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

That depends on how you define professional sports. Is it just major league, or do farm systems and lower ranks of professional sports count, too? Is it just the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL, or fo the WNBA and other professional sports fall into that. Because, if all of those apply, I believe that there is no day when no professional sports are played.

Re: Baseball Trivia: Who is the only...

I hope that I am correct on this but I think that it is the day after the MLB All-star game. All MLB teams are traveling. Hockey is over. No NFL training camp yet. No NBA. The kicker in this is that all of the MLB baseball teams are inactive the day after the All-Star game and that's what makes it possible. If that day was filled then there would never be a day without some kind of professional sport being played.

I heard there was some call to make September 11 free of all highest-league sports. Does anyone know if this has been made official?

Here's a bit of trivia that shows me just how irritating the MLB has become for so many reasons:

How many times have the Florida Marlins won the NL East?
