Cool 5 best baseball movies ever

1) Field of Dreams - Even the most emotionless of us tear up.

2) Bad News Bears (Original with Tatum O'Neal and Walter Mathau). It should be required viewing before anyone is allowed to coach a little league team.

3) The Natural - Didn't love it when it first came out in theaters but it has grown on me over the years. Roy Hobbs is the ultimate idealistic hero. (I never understood why he had to keep the fact that he got shot by a psycotic Barbara Hershey a military secret).

4) Pride of The Yankees

5) Major League

Honorable Mention: 8 men out and *61

Overrated: Bull Durham

Okay well Pundit where is that 1983 classic Blue Sky's Again?...BLUE SKIES AGAIN?...huh?...the humble, very low budget light comedy about a female second baseman's breaking into a man's game.... sure softball player turned one-shot actress Robyn Barto is no Hillary Swank...and yeah the set is bad...and okay Harry Hamlin does a lousy job as the team's bachelor owner...and okay so Mimi Rogers is a throw in as a romantic intrest...but was it really that bad?... I mean if its on cable, at 3:00 AM and you are having trouble sleeping is it such a bad film?...I beg you to reconsider my good man...I beg you not to become Captain Obvious... ...its not too late to save yourself from that "Eternal Abyss" you would just as rather stare at!...save yourself Pundit...give Blue Sky's Again an honorable mention!...

While Field of Dreams is alwaysthe popular choice, my vote goes for the Natural. Even the theme song is perfect.

The Natural always seemed so What?!? to me. Although it's all about loving the game.
I always liked Bang The Drum Slowly. Young DeNiro.
And how did Major League beat out 8 men out?

Dude, I've been rallying the troops and signing up my posse.

Team Croosh has almost assembled the pieces for world domination.

Are you in or out?

Re: 5 best baseball movies ever

Wow, there were so many good ones -- 61*, The Natural, the Rookie, Field of Dreams, Major League, Eight Men Out would probably have to top my list. Yes, I know that's technically six. So sue me. I'd also like to give a nod to The Babe with John Goodman. I can't be the only one who liked that movie, can I?

Re: 5 best baseball movies ever

Eight Men Out is definitely one of my favorites. Gotta love it when Ring Lardner, one of the reporters, walks through the train and sings that song..

"I'm forever blowing ballgames, pretty ballgames in the air. I come from Chi, I hardly try, just go to bat and fade and die. Fortune's coming my way, that's why I hardly care. I'm forever blowing ballgames, and the gamblers treat us fair."

Classic stuff. One thing that has always bothered me about that movie was Dickie Kerr's performances. I think he struckout like six guys in the series, yet the film made him seem like Kerry Wood against the Astros or something.

Re: 5 best baseball movies ever

Eight Men Out is certainly one of the best baseball movies ever. Gotta also go w/ Babe...John Goodman did an amazing job as the Sultan of Swat.

Cool Major League over 8 Men Out

Blue And White asks how Major League beats Eight Men Out? Fair question.

My answer: They were different types of movies. Eight Men Out is serious. Major League is a silly comedy and was more entertaining in my humble opinion.

And Major league has a major conceit in it. I mean, who doesn't remember when Chuck Sheen walks in from the bullpen to the "Wild Thing" chant?

Although I haven't seen Eight Men Out in a while, I can't think of any memorable moments.

Hey Pundit...in the words of Bob Uecker..."oooh, just a little bit low and outside"...but hey, I like it. You are defending a point on account of comedy...

(Sidebar) When I actually saw major League in the theater, there were 3 people in the audience...I felt like an Indian fan right in the mist of the movie...minus the drums of course...you da man Pundit, I take back almost all the things I've said about you
