| Re: Best Hitter in Baseball Few if any players in baseball have as many men on base in front of them as Rodriguez. There are probably 25 players in baseball that could record the number of RBI he has had in the last five years. Plus, you are comparing his numbers from year 7 thru 11 of his career- Pujols numbers are the first five years of his career. The difference in batting average is the most telling stat that you provided. Also, A-Rod has much better players protecting him in the order. |

Come on guys, throw off those chains of conventional wisdom, stop crunching the mind nubbing numbers...which by the way keeps being HR, RBI, AVG...I mean what about hits?...sacrific bunts, hitting behind the count, hitting with men on base?...blah, blah, Pujols...blah...blah...A-Rod...blah...blah, blah RBI's...blah... What about Ichiro?...or the altitude aided Helton?...the 3 straight 200 hit Michael Young?...the clutch hitting Ortiz, or Tejadas...nope!...blah...blah...blah...Pujols...bl ah...A-Rod... Here is a stat for you...Tejadas batted a cool .750 with runners in scoring position while behind the count on sunny days in the Month of June...No?...how do you know?...all I see is "HR, RBIs, AVG, Pujols, A-Rod"... Anybody Remeber PatTabler and what his batting average was with the bases load?...it was some ungodly figure...why don't we dig for a different stat... | Re: Best Hitter in Baseball Okay, Gotham, I've got one for you. How about the mighty and universally beloved Barry Bonds. Hear me out on this one, folks. He's got a career 12.91 HR-to-AB ratio and he has created 2,501 runs during his career. Both are tops among active players. "But Lefty, what about his OPS?" you might be saying. Well, according to Baseball-Reference.com, Bonds Adjusted OPS+ number of 184 is once again No. 1 among all active players, with Pujols second at 169. So how about it? Does Bonds belong in this argument? |

| Re: Best Hitter in Baseball I hate going with the flow, but it's hard to really stick someone in the same league as Pujols and A-Rod. Thanks to MVB for crunching numbers, but here are a few more crucial stats to include. 2001: Pujols - 93 SO, 69 BB Rodriguez - 131 SO, 75 BB 2002: Pujols - 69 SO, 72 BB Rodriguez - 126 SO, 87 BB 2003: Pujols - 65 SO, 79 BB Rodriguez - 126 SO, 87 BB 2004: Pujols - 52 SO, 84 BB Rodriguez - 131 SO, 80 BB 2005: Pujols - 65 SO, 97 BB Rodriguez - 139 SO, 91 BB --- I definitely want the guy who hits for the higher average and puts the ball into play more than the other. Think about how many more RBI Rodriguez could produce with more pop-flys or sacrifice flyes, instead of SO. As for another hitter in the leauge, Guerrero and Tejada are good, but Tejada isnt' consistent enough with average. As for Guererro, you could make a strong case. However, I think he sheds the light to not get the attention he deserves, which is good. Because it makes him that more dangerous of a hitter. I would put Guerrero before Rodriguez, though. Can't believe I forgot him. |

| Re: Best Hitter in Baseball albert pujols is better than arod for a couple reasons. arod is almost guaranteed to so more than 100 times a year pujols came close to that once in his first year and not close since. his slugging percentage is also better and on base percentage is better also. not to mention arod will choke when the big game is on the line, theres a reason he batted 8th in the playoffs. he might hit more home runs than pujols but that could change in the future also.so my vote is pujols all th way! |

| Re: Best Hitter in Baseball With the game on the line there's no deadlier hitter than Manny Ramirez. I say this as a Yankee fan as I watched him destroy us with his bat many many times. Just the sight of him at the plate scares me quite frankly. |

| Re: Best Hitter in Baseball To me it's Pujols, look at those numbers and I believe he has the highest average park adjusted OPS+ over the past three years. IMO A-Rod was the best overall in 2007 (ops+ of 177), but his 3 year averages don't quite measure up to Pujols. Albert Pujols
