Steroids

I know this will stur up something. Everyone and their brother has their opinions about this.

But with the Hall of Fame ballot out, the McGuire debate has erupted. As I site here at work, I'm listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio and he tackling this issue. But he is coming from a different perspective.

He is bringing up the Roger Clemons issue where Jason Grimsley basically came out and said that Clemons was using steroids.

But the point Colin brings up is how the last year or two in Boston, Roger had basically fell of the mound so to speak with his pitching. But when he was picked up by the Blue Jays, he was untouchable against the same batters in the same division. How is that?

And now he is I think 43 or 44 and he is still posting carear ERA's.

Doesn't this cause some speculation?

But why do we throw one player under the bus because of speculation but because someone is somewhat of a national hero, he becomes untouchable?

What are your thoughts on this? Just a nice cause of debate.

Re: Steroids

I think Clemens is one of the guys people think took steroids at some point in his career. However, the whole Grimsely thing is tricky because they came out afterwards and said the blacked out names were never Pettite, Clemens, Tejada (i think) and others. So I don't know about that.

I'm not saying he did, I have no proof...lol...but it's just an interesting look at it.

Re: Steroids

Why should we believe Grimsley? I mean, seriously! This guy's been lying for years (covering up his steroid-taking), why should he suddenly become some trusted source?

Re: Steroids

I agree. When you get caught doing something, most people try to rat one someone with the bigger name to take the light off of them.

i personally do not think Clemons did, but it was just interesting how Cowherd devoted an hour to it today.

Re: Steroids

Most baseball fans don't realize that athletes are juiced up with legal/illegal performance enhancement substances for every game.

Re: Steroids

Clemens didn't take steroids, if you say Clemens, you msut say Nolan Ryan, who did not either...no one should believe Grimsley, they even came out and said those werent the names. I do have slight Tejada suspicion though...

Re: Steroids

He already admitted to taking Vitamin B12.

It wouldn't surprise me.

But lets not bash players either!

Do you recall the suscipion regarding "Gonzo" last season?

If you don't remember, feel free to search our Archives and you will find some discussion back then.

Re: Steroids

As far as most fans are concerned, all players from the last generation are suspicious of at one time or another playing under the influence of steroids...clemens, luis gonzalez included.

Re: Steroids

Without any concrete evidence baseball has to give everyone a pass. They can crack down on it in the future but for now its too late. People could have been doing hundreds of things even before the beginning of steroids. Is it cheating if a player thinks he is doing something to gain an advantage?
