AL Manager of the Year Voting

Who do you vote for in the AL Manager of the Year voting?

I can't help but vote for Ron Gardenhire. They got off to a slow start and slowly built their way back into the playoff race. They passed by the defending World Series Champs and could still win the division.

Re: AL Manager of the Year Voting

It's got to be Leyland. I respect the job Gardenhire has done, but the Twins have been playoff contenders for years now. They have a lot of talent, including the hands-down Cy Young winner and two MVP candidates. Leyland's Tigers could well win the AL Central with what looks to be, on paper, a far inferior roster. Look at what they've done with other managers in the past few years. Leyland is the AL Manager of the Year in a LANDSLIDE!

Joe Torre.

This guy was almost thrown out the door but earned Steinbrenner's nod just in time to finish up the season.

Nobody in the Yankees' organization has job security under Steinbrenner.

Re: AL Manager of the Year Voting

Yeesh, I can't believe you guys! The Twins have a pitcher who is favored to win the Cy Young Award in Santana. They have two guys, Mauer and Morineau (sp?), who have been discussed as possible MVP candidates at different points in the season. Leyland took over a club that was horrific in 2005 and turned them into a playoff team.

So they didn't win the division? What he did with what he had is still FAR more impressive than what Gardenhire did with the talent level he had. If you don't believe me, go back and look at the http://www.goteamsgo.com/forum/detro...ifference.html and http://www.goteamsgo.com/forum/detro...anager-of.html threads for reference. Leyland is the Manager of the Year, Gardenhire a not-too-close second. No doubt about it.

I'd agree. The Tigers collapse and Twins resurgence should wrap the award up for Gardenhire.

Only if people decided to vote based solely on what happened in the final month of the season. Last time I checked, they've been playing since April, and the Tigers came in with far lower expectations for the season than the Twins did, and - sounding like a broken record here, but... - a guy CANNOT be manager of the year with the kind of talent Gardenhire has, namely the best pitcher in baseball and probably two of the top 10 guys in the MVP voting!

Sometimes (actually, most of the time) the last month is the most important one.

Re: AL Manager of the Year Voting

Why is it the manager's fault what kind of talent he has? People think it's easy to control and manage a bunch of all-stars. It isn't. Torre, especially, has to manage all those ego's and keep everyone in check.
