Paradise By the Dashboard Light

There's a funny story about it, how Meatloaf had Phil Rizzuto do the play by play for the song and Rizzuto insists he didn't know what it was for - that he was "tricked" into it. Meat Loaf says Rizzuto knew exactly what the song was all about and what the play by play meant. Rizzuto was putting everyone on.All in good fun - Rizzuto turns 89 on Monday.
Apparently, Meat Loaf re-enacted a running around the bases for the announcer using pizza boxes so Rizzuto could make it realistic.

"It was long ago and it was far away...and it was much, much better than it is today..."

Radio Broadcast:
Ok, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker
going here, two down, nobody on, no score,
bottom of the ninth, there's the wind-up and
there it is, a line shot up the middle, look
at him go. This boy can really fly!
He's rounding first and really turning it on
now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna
try for second; the ball is bobbled out in center,
and here comes the throw, and what a throw!
He's gonna slide in head first, here he comes, he's out!
No, wait, safe--safe at second base, this kid really
makes things happen out there.
Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch--
he's going, and what a jump he's got, he's trying
for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt--
safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base!
He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost
daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher
glance over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted
down the third base line, the suicide squeeze in on!
Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close,
here's the throw, there's the play at the plate,
holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

Meatloaf is a big baseball fan...plays a lot of Fantasy league ...lets fix the song so Phil can understand it better...

Ok, here we go, I got a girl here who is a real looker
I am going to try here, when no one looking, I am hoping to score,
It deep into the night, no telling where I might wind-up and
there it is, she gave me the nod, and then gave me a look...

(and its a PG site...so...its best not to finish it... )

Summer Camp huh?...Did Bob Bailor and Bjorn Borg know about your summer fling there BlueandWhite girl?...Cause if memory serves this was about the same time you had a crush on the Blue Jay shortstop and the tennis legend...just saying...

Good song...got my own memories of it...(all PG to PG-13 of course!)...

I have a freakishly good memory blueandwhite girl...I seldom forget details and I can string the bits and pieces of the puzzle together...

Like for example...Soviets and Canadian 1972...TV wheeled into your school class room for the finals...am I wrong?...

We never had a TV wheeled into class for a game darn it!...You and your glitzy childhood!

Re: Paradise By the Dashboard Light

I never really liked Meatloaf. He was a big hit and I thought he had an average voice. Considered an Elvis, I would take the real Elvis over this guy any day of the week.

"2 out of three ain't bad". But 66% is just passing in school!

It had nothing to do with the voice...it was the edgy attitude, and the lyrics my good man...

Two out of Three makes you a .667 hitter in baseball...

I don't think he was that great of a singer either, but I had that cassette when I was younger. I had to buy it aboput 3 times from wearing it out. It is one of my all time favorites. I haven't liked any of his other stuff though

I never liked anything after that either. But he hit a pretty big high - to come that close again was impossible.

Come now...the man followed up with the hit (though not as great a hit) "Anything for Love" in the early 90's...

Yea, that song was OK. It just seemed to me that he was trying to recapture something that was long gone. He may not have even had it. It may have just been a fluke.
