MLB's New Rivalries

Everyone knows about the storied baseball rivalries between teams like the Yankees/Red Sox, White Sox/Cubs, Cardinals/Cubs, Dodgers/Giants, Mets/Braves, etc. However, the Baseball Etc. blog makes note of a growing trend in modern day baseball. The revelation of feuds between cities and single players. You can see it when Johnny Damon returned to Boston (as a member of the Yankees), when Frank Thomas returned to Chicago (as an Athletic), etc.

Or you can see sheer admiration and ecstasy such as when Mike Piazza returned to New York (as a Padre) or Pedro Martinez returned to Boston (as a Met). It's a new and fascinating aspect to the game that is just now being dealt with due to free agency and high volume of player movement.

Which reunions/returns of this past season have you enjoyed the most? Or new rivalries kicking off?

Re: MLB's New Rivalries

I was happy to see Thome come back to Cleveland. He deserved to be cheered. He gave them many great years.
