Vanderbilt, Tide ticket demand at all-time high

Eric Jones has no way to offer an exact number. He can't tell who is an Alabama fan simply by a phone number or an address.

But Vanderbilt's ticket manager is realistic. When fielding the voluminous single-game ticket purchases for this Saturday's game and sorting through a bevy of new season-ticket holders, he can only come to one realization.

"I just know a lot of the people who ordered online came from Alabama addresses," Jones said. "And a lot of the calls and e-mails we received seemed to be from people with a 205 area code."

Call it a side effect of the Crimson Tide hiring Nick Saban as coach. Ticket demand is at an all-time high for Bryant-Denny Stadium, as the waiting list is in the thousands.

It is no different for the first road game. Vanderbilt Stadium seats 39,773, and when UA and the Commodores kick off at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, a sizable portion may be wearing crimson and white.

This is what Alabama players expect.

"I think everywhere we go there's a lot of fans, it doesn't matter where it's at," quarterback John Parker Wilson said. "It's good to see that when we go on the road, all of our seats are sold out and we have as many fans as can get there."

The phenomenon may not be new, but what's interesting is how it's happening. Along with the usual single-game purchases, Alabama fans - in droves - have swooped in and bought Vanderbilt season tickets.

Some spent $99 for seats in the end zone; others spent $175 for sideline seats - totals for seven home games. At face value, those seats on a single-game basis are $22 and $42.

And when this game is over, they will have the choice of either attending the other six VU home games or scalping their seats.
