The Baltimore Ravens apparently will not let Terrell Suggs test the free agent market.
The Ravens will place the franchise tag on Suggs if they cannot sign the linebacker to a long-term contract by the end of the month

Franchising players usually make those players very unhappy and generally harder to sign after he's free should the Ravens choose to do so.

I still don't get why it makes them angry. They are guaranteed a salary of an average of the top 5 at the position. He will get a hefty raise, and can work on a deal not having to worry about money.

Because these guys don't want an average of the top five. They want to be #1, to break the bank, and this keeps them from doing just that.

But if you have a bad season, your still getting paid major bank. I would be happy.
