Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens will put quarterback Steve McNair on injured reserve today, ending his season -- and possibly his career.
McNair will have surgery Tuesday to repair a partially torn rotator cuff, Hensley reports. The Ravens will sign kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd off the practice squad to take McNair's place on the active roster. They might also sign another quarterback this week to join starter Kyle Boller and backup Troy Smith on the roster. McNair will still be under contract to the Ravens, at a $4 million salary, next season. But the Ravens are likely to release him at some point during the off-season. And that raises the question of whether it's the end of the career for the 2003 co-NFL MVP. Given his age and injury history, he may choose to walk away from the game while he still can. And even if he still wants to play, he'd probably have to do so at a reduced salary, and as a backup.
