QB Of The Future

When Baltimore drafted Heisman-trophy-winning quarterback Troy Smith, it sent the message that he's going to have the chance to become, at the very least, the backup quarterback of the future. Former first-round draft choice Kyle Boller is entering the last year of his contract and his job will be within Smith's reach. The real prize would be the starting job down the line. Steve McNair is 34 years old, and the Ravens need a quarterback of the future. For now, Smith has a chance to vie for the job.

He'll be given a chance, but I'm just not convinced that he has the physical or mental tools to be an NFL quarterback.

He very well may be a bust in the NFL, but if he isnt, Its gonna make Ozzie newsome look like a genius for drafting him when no one would touch him. The main reason his draft stock went down was his last game, I think physically he has all the tools to get the job done..

Ah, but see... Flutie and Brady I knew could be successful. Not to sound like I'm patting myself on the back, but it's true. Brady, especially, it drove me nuts how he kept winding up on the bench in Michigan - he was clearly the better QB, even then, but Lloyd Carr kept insisting on getting Drew Henson playing time. See, if a guy has the mental tools, he can make up for not having the physical tools. But in Troy Smith, I just don't see that kind of mental makeup. But then, who knows... I was positive Shaun King was going to be a good one.
