Ravens Acquire Willis McGahee

The Ravens have reportedly agreed to a deal that will send two 2007 draft picks (3rd and 7th rounders) and a 2008 3rd round pick. They will get RB Willis McGahee from the Bills a day after Jamal Lewis signed with the Browns. Baltimore Sun

Good deal? They basically got him for nothing and I'm sure Ray Lewis and co. will keep his attitude in check. So I'd say yeah, good deal.

Re: Ravens Acquire Willis McGahee

Two #3s and a #7 for a proven commodity at RB, one who's much younger than Lewis? Great trade.

Cool Re: Ravens Acquire Willis McGahee

I don't know, Lefty. McGahee hasn't run well the last couple of years.

Re: Ravens Acquire Willis McGahee

I must contradict with your thoughts, ThePundit.

I have always felt that Willis McGahee was better than Jamal Lewis. This looks like a solid deal for the "Revival Ravens".

I'm sure that McGahee will have the better year come 2008.

I wouldn't say elite (IMO, LT, Alexander and Larry Johnson are the only true elite backs) but he can be very good.

Agreed. Big difference between proven commodity and elite back. McGahee's a 1200-yard guy, but by no means is he in Tomlinson, Johnson or Alexander's league at this point. He could get there, though, if he works at it.

For the umpteenth time I agree with Lefty. No were not related but I do kinda like him as a friend! McGahee gets a KILLER line to run behind which is just what he always wanted and did well when the Bills line was cohesive. No mistake about it, McGahee is not Barry Sanders that he can run behind any line but with the Ravens I think he's gonna tear up the league. They didn't give up much either considering who they got.

Those other three have some blocking and a passing game...so cut him a break...he can be an elite back on the right team...having said that, Tomlison is in his own orbit...

Re: Ravens Acquire Willis McGahee

So, are the Ravens the "right team" to enable his title of an elite back.

I don't like thier passing game...so they will key off on him...I think he will be good for 1,325 and no more...with 6-8 scores...

1,325 rushing is a great rushing total Goth. If he achieves that and catches the ball for at least 400 yds and scores around 7 times (around the numbers you said) i'd say this was still a superb move. And I for one think that if McNair stays healthy their passing game has burned quite a few teams in 2006. Of course McNair NEVER stays healthy so....

Running from the past
Examiner.com - 5 hours ago
BALTIMORE - When Willis McGahee puts on his new Baltimore Ravens jersey in September, he’ll do what comes naturally to him: run with the football.

But the running back, acquired last week in a trade with the Buffalo Bills for three draft picks, will also be looking to escape from his past. While the former University of Miami star earned accolades in Buffalo, he also gained critics. Even at last week’s news conference announcing his arrival in Baltimore, McGahee was dogged by questions that he clearly wanted to avoid.
