Jamal Lewis released

According to the Associated Press, "Running back Jamal Lewis, the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2003, was cut by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday... General manager Ozzie Newsome said the team still hoped to re-sign him." Guess they wanted him to take a forced pay cut after gaining 1,132 yards on just 3.6 yards per carry last season. Will they be able to resign him, and if not, will Mike Anderson be able to carry the load in the backfield?

That was dumb...perhaps the Jets will beat them to him.

Re: Jamal Lewis released

This was a mistake. There are several teams out there that need a good starting RB.

Remember gents...this Jamal Lewis isn't the same guy that rushed for 2000 yds a few years back. He's not even close. I hope his agent knows that before he stars demanding Edgerrin James type salary figures.

He may not be the same guy, but he is still better than a lot of the players out there. I bet the Vikings would love to have him.

Yep, and so would a few other teams...its a big Gamble the Ravens are taking.

Exactly, well said, Nuke. 3.6 yards per carry, and it's not like his OL was lousy or anything. Plug Rhodes, Michael Turner, et. al. into that offense and I bet you dollars to donuts that they can do better than 3.6 yards per carry. I'm just surprised they didn't do this last offseason. They could've still had Chester Taylor, and a Taylor-Mike Anderson backfield looks mighty good to me.

It's not like thier passing was striking fear into the other teams D...I think that the O was partly at fault with that 3.6...sort like Edge without Manning...

That is just what I was going to say. They have never had a great passing game. The other teams D was keying on Lewis because that is how to beat them.

If they never had a great passing game and defenses keying on him is the reason for his decline in production than how come he was so great about 4 years ago? You said they NEVER had a great passing game to which I agree but it doesn't work as an excuse for Jamal Lewis not being a fraction of the player he once was.
