Ravens don?t play tag with Thomas

BALTIMORE - Adalius Thomas has been a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro selection. Now, he’s going to be an unrestricted free agent.

The Baltimore Ravens chose not to apply the franchise player tag to Thomas, a star linebacker who will be 30 next season, before Thursday’s deadline, opting instead to let him test the free-agent waters.

“We have decided not to franchise Adalius Thomas,” Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement Thursday. “Our hope is that we can re-sign him. Our plan is to compete at a championship level in 2007 and beyond.”

Thomas’ agent, James “Bus” Cook, said Thomas was “relieved” to hear that he was not franchised but had hoped to be rewarded with a contract from the Ravens before Thursday.

I heard on the radio that the Browns were hoping he would be a free agent this year. They were going to make a legitimate run at him.

Savage helped unearth the gem he is back when he was at Southern Miss. Supposedly, he and Thomas have a very good relationship and I almost guarentee Savage is going to make an extremely hard push to get him. Plus, the Browns can outbid almost all teams as their salary cap is in very good condition.
