If the Chargers hire Ryan, the Ravens will need to move quickly to fill his position. There could be options within the organization, including Clarence Brooks, 55, a defensive line coach who has been with the Ravens for two of his 15 NFL seasons. Another possibility is Jeff Fitzgerald. The 46-year-old linebackers coach, a 14-year NFL coaching veteran, oversaw four Pro Bowlers this season.
Vic Fangio, a coaching consultant whom the Ravens hired during the 2006 season, is another option. Fangio has been a defensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints during his career. The Ravens did not publicize his role with the team early in the season, but his role was unveiled when he was featured in a brief television shot during a Ravens game.
Head coach Brian Billick made Fangio’s presence known soon after he assumed offensive play-calling duties in the wake of firing coordinator Jim Fassel. Fangio helped in evaluating both offensive and defensive game-planning, according to Billick. Earlier this season, Billick praised Fangio’s intense attention to detail.
