Ravens look to intercept Roethlisberger | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle
By ALAN ROBINSON AP Sports Writer

PITTSBURGH — This doesn't look like a good matchup for the Pittsburgh Steelers: the quarterback who leads the NFL in interceptions going against a Baltimore Ravens defense that is the league's best in picking off passes. Ben Roethlisberger has never played a full game in Baltimore, but he understands the challenge that awaits Sunday from a Ravens defense that has 18 interceptions. He has thrown 17 himself, only three fewer than he had in his first two seasons combined. So it's not surprising that coach Bill Cowher cautioned his quarterback about trying to force throws or gambling he can complete a pass into heavy coverage.

"Coach said that an incomplete pass might be the best play we have this week," Roethlisberger said Wednesday. "An incompletion is not going to hurt you. It's hard to tell a quarterback to be smart and not throw a pick. I just have to be patient and hopefully we can establish the run game and get ready to hit some big plays."

Not many teams have done that to the Ravens (8-2), who have two former NFL Defensive Players of the Year in safety Ed Reed and linebacker Ray Lewis. Reed is challenging to play against because he reacts so quickly to what a quarterback does, even a throw across the field.

Big Ben's been pretty lousy this season. How will he match-up against Reed, Lewis and the rest of the Ravens D?

This team and the New England are the only 2 teams I hate facing against as a Steelers fan , Though if the steelers can win this one ? I can see them having a good chance of making the playoffs or at least I can hope for , steelers 23 - 21

I doubt he will do well, but in the grand scheme of things, he will be better for playing against them.

Re: Roethlisberger vs Ravens defense

Ben Roethlisberger has not impressed me this season. It is too early in his career for him to lose his touch.

After all is said, I must scribble in the Baltimore Ravens defense for this one.

Re: Roethlisberger vs Ravens defense

clots? (as in Blood Clots)

I would have to take the Colts, as well.

Not a great performance out there today by the reigning SuperBowl Champions!

Well again...there is not much to learn from getting dumped 9 times in a game...

Re: Roethlisberger vs Ravens defense

Ben showed that he wasnt prepared for the game niether were the offensive line men.If the line was ready for the ravens D i think the game would have been a little bit more closer then it being a shut out.Ben is losing his touch too early before you know it i think charlie batch will be starting for a couple of games so Ben can recooperate. Then if he does recooperate i think the steelers may come back and not be as bad as they are playing right now..............what do you think?

Re: Roethlisberger vs Ravens defense

They need Ben to get healthy, they need to solidify that offensive line and they need to get a real sledgehammer to replace Bettis - Davenport, Haynes, Staley, none of them have worked out. They probably could use a legitimate #2 receiving threat as well. Really, they have more holes than a defending champion should have.
