Erik Bedard Trade Rumors Why are the Baltimore Orioles considering trading Erik Bedard? He's young and a good pitcher. Here are some trade rumors out of Baltimore... Baltimore Sun "The GM meetings start next week, and the Orioles should have a better understanding of the market for Erik Bedard and Miguel Tejada. It’s a shame that we’re even discussing the possibility of Bedard being traded. He’s a homegrown No. 1 starter who’s signed through 2009. Teams usually embrace these guys. But the Orioles aren’t going to lose him in free agency. I think they'd rather deal him if they don’t believe they can sign him to an extension. "

| Re: Erik Bedard Trade Rumors And this, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why the Orioles will never be any good again. No sooner than they start looking promising than the team wants to jettison a starter like Bedard. I can just see all the playoff contenders salivating at getting this kid and giving him an extension.

Re: Erik Bedard Trade Rumors Ok ... You guys want the real scoop on Bedard???? Here it is .... I spoke to Orioles commentator & Former Pitcher Dave Johnson. He said Bedard doesn't like Maryland. He has no intention of resigning here. Furthermore, He is not good with the Media & Fans. He is not a Good clubhouse guy & he only wants to pitch 6 Innings. Heres the reality the O's face 1) Mcphail says the O's will rebuild. (Wont be competative for at least 2-3 years. 2) Bedard & Roberts will be free agents & are long tired of losing. 3) Tejada,Mora, & Hernandez will be way past their primes. (not to mention the morale of these guys) The Orioles only shot would be trading each of these guys for the best 2 or 3 prospects they can get. (Bedard, Roberts, & Tejada). All reports that I have heard for Tejada have been for 3 guys that are much younger & are ready/ pr nearly ready. Roberts is among the best leadoff men in the league. He would certainly draw serious interest & offers. So wpuld Bedard after Santana is traded. 4) Hernandez & Mora have value & should be traded to get a prospect & maybe a second (a ball prospect) They should be willing & creative enough to absorb some payroll for the club that obtains them. Everyone is said to be available with the exception of Markakis. I believe Mcphail will get a lot done in the next few months.

Re: Erik Bedard Trade Rumors Reports say the Mets offered the Orioles a package of OF Lastings Milledge, RHP Aaron Heilman and RHP Phil Humber for Bedard, but were turned down. However, the Mets need a top starter and like Bedard. They could include OF Carlos Gomez and perhaps another pitcher.

Re: Erik Bedard Trade Rumors Bedard has told the team he has no intentions of signing a new contract with them. So he'll become a free-agent after the 2009 season (I think). So they should get something now, shouldn't they? It's not like the availability of starters is high right now.

Re: Erik Bedard Trade Rumors [quote=tvdoc5;210512]Orioles offer Bedard 5/60 before they trade him to Dodgers for Hu,Kemp and Loney. Bye Bye Erick Interesting....this was from a few months ago. Today, the Dodgers and Orioles are reportedly discussing a possible deal that would send RHP Jonathan Broxton and OF Matt Kemp to Baltimore for Bedard.
