Tejada may change positions

According to rumors over at Yahoo! Sports, "Though no Baltimore Orioles executive will say it publicly, there's plenty of sentiment in the front office that if shortstop Miguel Tejada returns, it should be at another position... Tejada has struggled defensively this season at the only position he has ever played, making 15 errors and compiling a .969 fielding percentage, which would be his worst since he became an everyday player for the Oakland Athletics in 1998."

What do you think? Where should Tejada play next year?

Cool Re: Tejada may change positions

I think Tejada should play on another team. The Orioles should try to move him and get a starting pitcher in return.

Re: Tejada may change positions

after coming back from injury, Tejadas has posted a semi-good year...he had 10 homers in August...but now he has 0 in September...just in time for my GTG Fantasy baseball playoffs...which sucks.

Re: Tejada may change positions

I hear they're considering moving him to third base and moving Mora to the outfield.

There's no place for him on either team in NY...Both have pretty good shortstops and 3rd basemen, don't you think?

How about the Dodgers? They can use a hitter in the worst way. Or better yet, how about SF, they need hitting and have the starting pitching to work out a deal.

Re: Tejada may change positions

Several MLB rumor sites have him landing in St Louis for a couple of prospects. If that happens it will be the first thing they've done at the right time for about 10 years.

Hernandez looks like he's ready both defensively and offensively to take over the shortstop position. Huff did an above average job at thirdbase when Mora went down and that would almost seem too logical a move with Mora moving to left. That would leave them with a huge gap in either centerfield or rightfield if they decide to move Markakis to center.

One site has them throwing about 36-39 million for 4 years at Cordero to close and adding Jon Lieber to the pen.

MacPhail has his work cut out. It'll suck to be him for a couple of years.

Re: Tejada may change positions

Early reports have Cordero looking for a minimum of $40 mil for 4 years. Bringing him back to the AL, I don't know about that.

If Baltimore does indeed look to move Tejada, I hope they can get something more than a couple of prospects.

Would Baltimore be in play for Aaron Rowand? That way they can just leave Markakis in right.

Re: Tejada may change positions

MacPhail likes Patterson's glove and he's gone on record as saying defense up the middle is a priority with him...which is why they've talked about moving or trading Tejada and also why they like Patterson. MacPhail believes Hernandez behind the plate, Roberts and Hernandez in the middle infield and Patterson in centerfield gives the team excellent defense to go with it's young pitchers.

Bedard, Guthrie, Loewen, Cabrera, Olson, Burres and Liz will all be trying to fill at least 4 of the 5 starting positions next year with Bedard, Guthrie, and Loewen the only ones assured of a spot in the rotation.

It appears that MacPhail is tuned in to going after help for the pen...they've lost their closer and set-up man for all of 2008 to surgery. What will actually happen is anybodies guess, but that's all he's admitted to having on his plate at this point...and that's a real no-brainer.

The pen is in a state of flux with Walker and Bradford in hopes of going back to their original roles of left/right specialists. The have a couple of young bullpen hopefuls in Cherry, Hoey and Birkins. At last count they had about half of their 25 man roster undetermined...that can't be good.

Supposedly they'll expect top of the line prospects, but not necessarily major league ready prospects, which is why several teams seem to be interested in Tejada.
