The Baltimore Orioles designated reliever Scott Williamson for assignment. Williamson was 1-0 with a 4.40 ERA in 16 appearances. He wasn't available in Tuesday night's loss to the White Sox because of a bruised foot.

"This is definitely a crossroad in my career. I don't understand it really," said Williamson. "I don't want to retire yet but we'll see."

The Orioles have 10 days to either trade Williamson, outright to the minors or release him.

I'm surprised. He was always a quality pitcher. Will someone pick him up?

I think someone will. I mean, pitching definitely seems to be an always-in-demand commodity. Heck, maybe the Pirates could give him a go.

When the Orioles cut a pitcher, the red flag must really go up...They're not exactly rich in pitching.

I have read that the Reds may try to sign him. He started with them I believe, and has some friends willing to ginve him a try.

They've got some talented pitchers - Bedard and Guthrie, for instance.

And they're 8th in the AL in team ERA, so it's not exactly like they're not the worst pitching team in baseball, you know?
