Orioles sign Brian Roberts

The Baltimore Orioles have signed 2B Brian Roberts to a new one-year, $4.2 million deal, avoiding arbitration in the process. According to the AP, "Roberts had asked for $4.6 million, and the Orioles had offered $3.8 million... His new contract includes incentives for making the All-Star team, earning a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger Award, and being named MVP for the season or in the playoffs."

Cool Re: Orioles sign Brian Roberts

Didn't he also have steroid-type numbers for a season or 2?

Re: Orioles sign Brian Roberts

Roberts got yet another new contract today, a two year extension that will reportedly pay him $6.3 million in 2008 and $8 million in 2009. The Associated Press astutely notes that "Several other Orioles are signed through 2009, including shortstop Miguel Tejada, third baseman Melvin Mora, catcher Ramon Hernandez, outfielder Jay Gibbons, outfielder/first baseman Aubrey Huff, left-hander Erik Bedard, and relievers Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker and Danys Baez." So I guess 2009 is the deadline for these guys to put up or shut up, eh?
