Putting aside hard feelings and laughing away rumors, Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville sported a smile Wednesday as he expressed optimism about the football program's future. One day after agreeing to a contract extension through the 2013 season, Tuberville offered his most detailed explanation to date of the 10-day saga that began moments after Auburn's sixth consecutive Iron Bowl win. In the following days, Tuberville's name was linked to three jobs, his movements were tracked in three states and his on-and-off negations with Auburn administrators were watched with all the gravity of an international summit. "I'm glad this is behind us," Tuberville said. Tuberville's new deal, reached after a hotel-room meeting with athletic director Jay Jacobs Tuesday night in New York, extends his current contract by two years. Tuberville will make an average of $3.3 million over the life of the six-year contract, including $2.8 million in 2008. Tuberville said he has emerged from the process energized and recommitted to Auburn.
