Freshman making his mark

AUBURN, Ala. --

Auburn offensive tackle Lee Ziemba spent last spring reading through Auburn's playbook, working out with weights -- anything to get prepared for two-a-days at Auburn.

He had an opportunity to pull off something rare by starting as a freshman. He even told his mother he'd do it.
"It was a pretty lofty goal," Ziemba said. "I told my mom back in the spring. I just felt like I was gonna go there and do it. It still surprises me that I got to do it."
What Ziemba found was the ideal situation for an enthusiastic, hard worker. Auburn lost Jonathan Palmer to graduation, leaving a vacancy at right tackle with no experienced players returning.
Sophomore Andrew McCain and junior Antwoin Daniels competed for the spot during spring training, but neither stood out. By the second week of fall practice, offensive line coach Hugh Nall shifted the 6-foot-8, 297-pound Ziemba into the starter's spot.
