| Auburn gets commitment from Birmingham quarterback ҁUBURN -- Quarterback Barrett Trotter of Briarwood Christian in Birmingham announced his commitment to Auburn Thursday during a press conference at his school. Trotter joins Deron Furr of Carver High in Columbus, Ga., as one of two quarterbacks in Auburn's class of 2008. Trotter is the Tigers' 15th commitment. Auburn has four scholarship quarterbacks currently on the roster, but Brandon Cox's eligibility will expire after this season and Blake Field will be a senior in 2008. Trotter said his decision was made easier when quarterback Steven Ensminger transferred to Louisiana Tech three weeks ago and true freshman Kodi Burns played against Mississippi State. "It's close to home and the biggest thing in this state is Auburn and Alabama football," Trotter told AuburnSports.com. "To be a part of that is really something special to me." Trotter (6-2, 193) threw for 2,414 yards last year as a junior. Junior offensive lineman Andrew McCain is the only other Auburn player from Briarwood Christian. -- WELCOME TO THE CLUB: Back-and-forth banter between Auburn Auburn gets commitment from Birmingham quarterback- al.com
