| 'The Swamp' awaits, but AU's been toughon the road of late AUBURN - The day was Nov. 12, 2005. The crowd at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., was so loud that sophomore Brandon Cox had trouble talking to the player next to him. No. 15 Auburn faced fourth-and-10 at its own 35 as the clock raced toward the two-minute mark. No. 9 Georgia led 30-28. Auburn had to have at least a first down or the game would essentially be over. Cox, in the shotgun, picked up the low snap off the ground. He saw wide receiver Devin Aromashodu streaking across the field and hit him in stride. Aromashodu seemed headed for a touchdown, but he lost the ball a step short of the goal line. After a wild scramble, Auburn's Courtney Taylor recovered in the end zone. Auburn got the ball at the 3, ran three plays and John Vaughn punched through a 20-yard field goal for a 31-30 victory. Auburn had gone on the road and beaten a Top 10 team in a Southeastern Conference game. Again. Since the start of the 2004 season, the Tigers are 11-1 in SEC road games. The only loss was a 20-17 loss in 2005 to LSU in overtime when Vaughn missed five goal tries. They have won eight of their last nine, home and away, against teams ranked in the Top 10. Long & winning road- al.com
