| Conflicting signals about Aubun's backup QBs AUBURN -- Coach Tommy Tuberville reiterated Wednesday that Blake Field was Auburn's No. 2 quarterback and true freshman Kodi Burns No. 3, even as comments from some of his players created a different impression. "Blake Field is our backup quarterback," Tuberville said on the SEC teleconference Wednesday. "We have practiced Kodi with our second team and third team since he's been here, just trying to get him ready for possibly a game this year, but also to get him enough snaps this fall in terms of practice to go into spring practice really knowing what he's doing." When Field was asked on Tuesday how snaps were being distributed in practice, he said he was "not at liberty to say." "Brandon's still our starter right now," Field said. "That's all I'm going to say." Asked why Field was being so guarded in his answers, Tuberville said, "I have no clue. He's our No. 2." Senior defensive end Quentin Groves described Burns' status as "G-5 confidential." Receiver Robert Dunn said coaches were giving Burns "the same treatment Florida gave Tebow last year," referring to Gators quarterback Tim Tebow, who played as a freshman in 2006. But Tuberville said he didn't think Burns would play. "Y'all (think so). I don't," Tuberville told reporters after Wednesday's practice. "(Anyone who does) might be surprised." -- INJURY WATCH: Tuberville said linebacker Tray Blackmon and safety Aairon Savage, both down with ankle injuries, practiced Wednesday. "They're still not 100 percent," he said. "We'll just have to wait and see before the game if they're going to play. They know the game plan." Conflicting signals about backup QBs- al.com
