| Cox being sacked by K-State helps explain cobwebs Auburn coaches winced when quarterback Brandon Cox said Monday he was a "little fuzzy" and "out of it" after a few hits in Saturday's season-opener against Kansas State. That's not something you want to tell your next opponent, Auburn figured, but it helps explain why the Tigers struggled to a 23-13 victory and why the usually dependable Cox was sacked five times and sandwiched even more times on balls he managed to throw. There's a secret official film breakdown on why the sacks happened. Let's just say the usual scapegoat - the offensive line - was not responsible for most of them. Cox, being hard-headed as usual while playing through pain, fuzziness and - let's see, an ice pack on his throwing shoulder - cleared his noggin just in time to throw the go-ahead touchdown pass with two minutes remaining. He says he's fine for Saturday's game against South Florida. That's good news for offensive coordinator Al Borges, who needs Cox to be of clear thoughts. Auburn has been in an offensive funk that dates back to last year. The Tigers have failed to rush for 100 yards in four of the last 12 games, and have failed to pass for more than 155 yards in six of the same dozen. That's why head coach Tommy Tuberville says he's looking to shake up things and that he wants playmakers. That's why he will give tailback Mario Fannin his first college carries against South Florida. Cox being sacked by K-State helps explain cobwebs- al.com
