| AUBURN NOTEBOOK: Fairley fails to qualify, heads to junior college AUBURN -- Williamson High lineman Nick Fairley did not meet eligibility requirements to enroll at Auburn and will spend the next two years at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss., Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville said Tuesday. Fairley had been waiting for approval from the NCAA Clearinghouse. "Unfortunately, it didn't work all the way to the end," Tuberville said. "He came pretty close. He'll go there and play and we'll hopefully see him in a few years." Fairley's status with the Clearinghouse was further complicated in May, when the Press-Register reported allegations of improper grade changes for students and athletes at several Mobile County high schools. The Press-Register reported that seven grades were changed on Fairley's transcript. B.C. Rain defensive back Ryan Williams, who had 10 grades changed on his transcript, was cleared by the Clearinghouse and has been on campus for several weeks.
