| Hawks Blow 9 point lead Late I could not believe this last night! Hawks' nine-point lead disappears late | ajc.com Hawks' nine-point lead disappears late By SEKOU SMITH The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 11/05/07 Auburn Hills, Mich. — Splitting a season-opening weekend set with Dallas and Detroit is nothing for the Hawks to be angry about. When they review Sunday's spirit-crunching 92-91 loss to the Pistons, and particularly the final frantic seconds, they'll realize that they left the raucous Palace of Auburn Hills without the one thing they seemed to have in hand for most of the night — a win. The Hawks (1-1) had every opportunity to slay their second NBA dragon in as many tries, but the chance was taken away late when Marvin Williams was called for a foul as Chauncey Billups drove to the basket and put up a wild shot before falling to the ground with the game tied at 91-91 and 1.9 seconds left on the game clock. Billups sank the first free throw for the final score but missed the second. Josh Smith grabbed the rebound but didn't get his futile shot off before the final buzzer. The winning free throw came just after Smith tied the game with three free throws when he was fouled by Rasheed Wallace on a wild 3-point shot. |
