| Re: Atlanta Falcons Key gains: DE John Abraham (Jets), S Lawyer Milloy (Bills), S Chris Crocker (Browns), CB Jimmy Williams (Virginia Tech), OT Wayne Gandy (Saints). Key losses: OT Kevin Shaffer (Browns), OT Barry Stokes (Lions), S Bryan Scott (Saints). Breakdown: Falcons traded away first-round pick to get Abraham, a top pass rusher and three-time Pro Bowler, and then moved up in the second round of the draft to get Williams, a first-round talent. Free agency brought two starting safeties in Milloy and Crocker. Gandy, a 13-year veteran, is viewed as a better pass protector than Shaffer. Speedster Jerious Norwood (Mississippi State) joins a potent rushing attack already blessed with the big-play ability of QB Michael Vick, the versatility of Warrick Dunn and the power of T.J. Duckett. Questions: Are defensive reinforcements the final piece to the playoff puzzle? Will Vick ever become a consistent passer? Will the Falcons' last two first-round picks, WRs Michael Jenkins and Roddy White, become more reliable? There are rumors the Falcons might trade Duckett, who is entering the final year of his contract. I am still high on Roddy White...and the move to get Abraham seemed good. Have the Falcons imporved enough to make a playoff run in 2006? |
