Falcons After Michael Turner

With limited opportunities to play as LaDainian Tomlinson's backup during four seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Michael Turner typically cashed in on his opportunities. The Atlanta Falcons hope he cashes in on the chance they're providing him to become their starting tailback the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The Falcons spent Friday, the first day of free agency, wooing Turner, who is considered the top running back available. Tennessee free agent tight end Ben Hartsock also met with the Falcons, and Jacksonville offensive lineman Maurice Williams was involved in contract talks with the team. The Falcons also are hosting Houston cornerback/safety Von Hutchins, according to his agent, Ken Harris.

Re: Falcons After Michael Turner

The addition of Turner likely signals the end of Warrick Dunn’s time with the team. If the Falcons release Dunn, they will gain about $3 million in salary cap space.
Turner and a representative of his agent, James “Bus” Cook, wouldn’t confirm an ESPN.com report that his contract with Atlanta is for $34.5 million, with approximately $15 million guaranteed.

Big contract... though I hate to see Dunn go out this way.

Yeah, Dunn's a class act. Deserves to go out on his own terms.

Turner's a great pickup for Atlanta, though. And yet I still can't figure out why he opted to go to the Falcons. He's gonna get killed.

Re: Falcons After Michael Turner

Who else offered him a contract? The Falcons could have ponied up the most cash. He isn't a rookie. Maybe he saw this as his payday.

Bucs don't need him. Indy would be a good home for him. He could be used in spot duty behind Addai.

I guess, but he has not mentioned the place...a Florida boy who has played for Tampa and Atlanta might object to the cold...

I guess it will all come down to which team offers the most for him.

Re: Falcons After Michael Turner

Great turn of events for the Falcons. While I have the highest regard for Dunn as a person his on field performance is starting to slip. I do hope he lands with a contender and finishes his career on a high note. Turner will do well here and he will allow the speedster Norwood to enter the game as a significant change of pace back.

This signing will allow the Falcons to draft some studs for the OL. I see bright days ahead for the Falcons and for once look forward to the draft and next season. The front office and coachong staff seem to be on the same page for the first time in history.
