Falcons released seven players Friday, including four-time Pro Bowl TE Alge Crumpler, QB Byron Leftwich, and LT Wayne Gandy.
This is a strong statement about Crumpler's lack of conditioning and health, because the team saves only $1.3 million by cutting Crumpler this season. Crumpler, 30, has some question marks but immediately becomes the top tight end on the free agent market. He'd be worthwhile pickup for a team like the Vikings, Bills, Seahawks, or Buccaneers.

I still wonder why theyre cutting him though, only saving 1.3 mil and hes proven to be a good TE..

Look at his last two years - add in the fact that he supported Vick and runs his mouth better than he runs routes.

He may have one more good year left in his beat up out of shape body but the Falcons need to start over with young players. They won 4 games last year and can surely win 4 next year without Crumpler.

I dont think Leftwich ever really started in my opinion. I would love to see Crumpler get a short term contract in Seattle, cuz i also beleive he has maybe 1 or 2 good years left

I think Crumpler's release had more to do with his support of Vick. Otherwise they would have had a replacement

Crumpler was shooting his mouth off a LOT last year. The Atlanta Falcon organization had enough problems on and off the field so I think they want a clean slate so to speak.

Unless you consider this addition by subtraction in that he was such a negative force on the team that ANYONE would be better.

The Falcons need a "major rebuild" and Crumpler would not make a bit of difference in the win / loss column next year.

I think they have a plan - in fact they got with all of the players that still have a few years of football left in them and pretty much told them what the future bore - REBUILDING. Many of them see the next couple of years as a waste and wanted an early release so they would have better chances hooking up with a contender.

TE is not a big deal when you don't have a QB that can get him the ball. The word here is they want TE's that can move and BLOCK.
