Mike Smith: New Falcons Head Coach

So much for waiting for Steve Spagnuolo. According to Associated Press reports, the Atlanta Falcons have officially offered their head coaching job to Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith. The AP quotes an unnamed source as stating that the announcement should become official at a Thursday press conference. Good hire?

I have no clue here. I think, a big assumption really, that Blank has made two good hires in the GM and HC - we should know in about two years.

Bad move, the guy wasn't considered the leader of the defense in Jackonville when he was the cordinator and now he has to be the leader of the Falcons. Whoo

Cool Re: Mike Smith: New Falcons Head Coach

Mike Smith? Who? I don't know why they just didnt' wait until after the Super Bowl. I'm sure Mike Smith would have still been available.

Re: Mike Smith: New Falcons Head Coach

Waiting was not in the cards. What if they had gotten rejected - then what. Plus all the changing is taking place now - i.e. setting up staff. This way they can still pick good assistant coaches and build a complete staff.

IMHO Blank has done a good thing - he has turned the team over to "Football People".
