Singletary Interested

He isn't my choice but he's gotta be better than Petrino:

Singletary 'prepared to anwers questions' if called | ajc.com

(snip)

Atlanta has the only current vacant position and he reportedly dazzled Falcons owner Arthur Blank in a one-hour interview last season. If he gets the call again, he's ready to start turning about the moribund and snake-bitten franchise.

"Right now, there are so many things up in the air in terms of ... I just would have to have a better look at what's there," Singletary said about turning the Falcons around. "The most important thing is, if indeed I get that call, I'll be prepared to answer all of those questions. Until then, I'll just wait and see what happens."

I don't know much about his coaching style, but he should be able to command respect out of this team. That's the most important thing right now.

I don't think he's head coach material. A good player yes but head coach. I don't see it... Lots of guys are great players and lots of guys are great assistants. But still I don't see it here. But I think after all is said and done that he'll be the next coach though just based on (1) he impressed Blank before when interviewed for the last vacancy (2) he's practically begging to be the coach [this isn't the first article about him being interested in the job]

I think he would be a great head coach. He basically ran the Bears defense when he was captain. He called plays and ran audibles. He will get their respect just because he has won before, and know what it will take. I just think he may blow up if they don't listen to him.

I like Singletary will make a good head coach. He can built a strong defense, but that isn't what the Falcons need. They need someone to fix their offense.

Re: Singletary Interested

I like Singletary, and I'd like to think that he would make a good head coach. But something just tells me that he will not. He was the LB's coach with Balt, and is the defense and assistant head coach in S.F. So if he gets the job he's not going into it blind. But I think he will have to surround himself with a staff that has experience. And I think with that Mike would be looking over his sholder a lot. Let's face it, the chances of going into Atlanta and turning it around in a season or two is probably not going to happen. You go 4 and 12 or worse in two years, you are going to be lucky to see year 3. On the other hand though, Blank is not like a lot of other owners, he may be a little more patience. And to be honest, I think he wants nothing more than to make the Falcons a winner. And I think he is going to stop at nothing to make it happen, like Jerry Jones and Dan Synder.

Yup

I see Blank as patient to a point. Even if the team loses, as long as they show progression he'll hang with the coach. You see Mora started off with a bank but his next year was bad and his 3d year was worse. So he showed no positive progression in Blank's view and thus needed to be sacked. Given the latest team fiascos he might be a little more patient with this coach to avoid more negativity..but that's a big fat "might".

Re: Singletary Interested

Terrence Moore is a jack ass idiot. Did you read his latest attack on UGA? WTF is it with him anyway.

Is there any state newspaper that attacks and insults the flagship University like the AJC writers attack and insult UGA?

You must be talking about the whiner piece. What a hypocrite – he whines incessantly about the lack of black coaches, baseball players, columnist, political leaders etc. UGA folks complain a little about the way the BCS poll jumped them he rants on calling them whiners. He may be the worst sports writter in the country and I wish he would crawl back under the rock pile.
