There are plenty of reasons why D.J. Shockley sat through the NFL draft unmentioned and unloved until the Atlanta Falcons finally selected him in Sunday's seventh round.
His mechanics remain unrefined, a testament to having just one season as Georgia's starter. Scouts will tell you that his footwork gets sloppy at times, that he delivers short passes with a flick of the wrist from a flat-footed stance, that he doesn't stride into the longer throws often enough, that he looks to run when he should be looking for his third receiving option.
And then there's the matter of his height, or lack thereof. At 6-foot-1, Shockley comes up well short of the NFL's height prototype for his position.
Those perceived weaknesses undoubtedly hurt Shockley's pro stock. He could prove to be one of the Falcons' strongest draft choices in years.


So is D.J. Shockley a Diamond in the rough for the Falcons?...I always root for short QBs...its the underdog in me...

He's got an outside chance, if he can overcome the height bias. Incredible athlete.

I never understood the height thing. If you are good, then you are good. Period. Being tall like Ryan Leaf only means that he's able to see the defender he's about to throw the INT to.

Also, Shockley is Quincy twin sister only a bit more accurate. I don't see him becoming anything recently good in the pros. I wouldn't go with someone who couldn't out duel the "great" David Greene while at Georgia.
