Falcons' first half sets marks for second

By STEVE WYCHE

Flowery Branch — The Falcons closed out the first half of the season with a rare victory to improve to 2-6, a mark that still leaves them among the seven worst of the NFL's 32 teams.

Yet, in finally establishing a running game and getting key plays down the stretch against San Francisco Sunday, coach Bobby Petrino said he thinks more pieces are in place for a competitive run over the final eight games.

Petrino wasn't claiming there would be a radical turnaround, but he also doesn't foresee another collapse like over the second halves the past two seasons.
