Falcons: No Offense, No Defense

This team is pitiful. We need help everywhere in just about every position. But that said I still don't think Petrino is the man for the job but I hope he makes me out as a bad prognosticator.

Loss puts Falcons' problems on national display | ajc.com

The previous problems have gotten bigger and new ones have sprung. The offense sputtered again — it has scored just one touchdown in 10 quarters — and despite quarterback Joey Harrington not being awful, he wasn't good either.

Harrington (18 of 39, 209 yards, one interception) failed to ignite a team in desperate need of inspiration.

Salvation? That might be a reach at this point.

"I don't have an answer," said uncharacteristically downtrodden Harrington. "We started out so fast and we were moving it just fine and then everything just shut down. Everything."

The defense made plays but they also gave up plenty (491 yards, 303 passing). The special teams were hot and cold again, with Morten Andersen making one of two field-goal attempts but Demorrio Williams committing a roughing the punter penalty that led to the Giants' first score.

I tend to agree with your assesment of Patrino however the scheme isn't responsible for dropped passes and Dunn's pathetic running (he is done IMHO).

Yeah I know our WR's suck. They couldn't catch a cold. But everything about the falcons needs fixed. We are years away from being good because you can't fix everything in one draft. But where do you start? Most people think they'll go after McFadden with the first pick and get a QB 2d or 3d round. But what QB will be left in 2d or 3d round? Most predict Booty. But a lot of analysts think Petrino will want Brohm cause of his familiarity with Petrino. I don't see Brohm in the 2d or 3d round. So will he want that 1st pick? Is passing McFadden (if available) smart? What about OL? We also need a kicker that's not halfway into the sports-old folks home. (how about Coutu???) The list is endless in terms of what the team needs. But there is something about Petrino's offensive "genius" scheme that does not seem NFL calibre to me.

Speed - NFL speed is far greater than college. Same thing happened to Spurrier.

I'm going to think about draft needs and offer up my thoughts in a day or so.
