Humane Society Has Vick's Talking Points

Michael Vick gave a public apology last week after he pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges related to his Bad Newz Kennels dog fighting ring.

Some Vick supporters have said that Vick must have been sincere in his apology because he gave it without notes. But the Humane Society of the United States says that's not true: According to the Humane Society, Vick had handwritten notes in front of him -- and the Humane Society says it's in possession of those notes:
With dozens of reporters jammed into the press room at the Omni Hotel in Richmond, it was The HSUS's own Chad Sisneros, head of our Video Services section, who in looking to retrieve his microphone saw the abandoned scrap of paper and picked it up.
The notes say:
1. Apologize for what I've done
2. Apologize Commissioner, AB, Petrino, ashamed disappointed
3. Young kids I acted immature
4. Forgiveness & understanding
5. Take full responsibility for my actions
6. We all make mistakes I've made mistakes in judgment / Dogs have suffered
That last part -- dogs have suffered -- is in a box at the lower right corner of the paper, and the Humane Society says that's the one Vick never said.

The Humane Society is selling the notes on eBay, and it says the money will go to help in its efforts "to bust the next dogfighting ring."

Yeah, because public speaking is only sincere if you have absolutely no notes in front of you. Gimme a doggone break, Humane Society. One of the very first things they teach you in Public Speaking 101 is to have an outline of what you intend to say in front of you, incase you get nervous or rattled and need to refresh your memory. I know, I've taken the course, and I bet at lot of other people here have had the same class and learned the exact same lesson. Lay off the guy and let the legal system have its crack at him, okay?

Re: Humane Society Has Vick's Talking Points

Guess who kills more dogs and cats every year than a thousand Mike Vicks could in a lifetime? Yes, the very same Humane Society! They put down millions of animals every year. Hey, I have to write myself notes to rememeber what to do each day, so I cannot go after Vick because he writes some for the most important speech of his life.

Oh for the love of....that's insane legend! They simply can't have stray dogs and cats roaming around for our and their good, most of those strays would starve if left out there. The Humane Society tries to get them adopted to good people and only puts them down when they have no more room for them! That's a HUGE difference from having an illegal dogfighting ring for fate's sake!!! The next note you write yourself to do should be not to make posts like these anymore!!!

Re: Humane Society Has Vick's Talking Points

I have dealt with all of the groups like PETA and the Humane Society all my adult life, being in the greyhound industry, and have had to listen to all their lies about greyhounds being slaughtered when they can no longer run and the like. Every time I have a chance to slam them I will take it, and won't need to write a note to myself to do it.

Come on man...have we become so freakin anal a society and have we lost all focus on things as to go to the length of posting a scrap from a note to keep grilling this guy????...dozen of child killers each year don't get this much negative attention...some even get people petitioning for a stay of execution etc...If Vick is sick...so is freakin PETA and the Humane Society for being so freakin obsessive and petty...

Re: Humane Society Has Vick's Talking Points

The Humane Society and PETA are way different organizations. If legend wants to slam PETA i'll help him! I despise PETA and their hypocrisy!! But the Humane Society merely rescues and provides homes for stray animals who need them.

Nuke, I'll meet you halfway and agree they are much more palatable than PETA, but they should mind thier business when it comes to apologies. Fair enough?

Exactly. They can talk about cruelty to animals, that's part of their business but Vick's apology, noteless or not, is out their realm.

Re: Humane Society Has Vick's Talking Points

So do you feel Vick is for real or not about being sorry?

I think in order for him to be sorry, he has to believe that what he did was wrong...I don't think he does. I think he has seen it did not go over well, and it's against the norm of society and aganist the law...he has seen it hurt (killed?) his career etc...but I doubt that he feels is all that wrong...so no...I doubt he is sorry in the way people want to see him be sorry.

Re: Humane Society Has Vick's Talking Points

Gotham is exactly right. You cannot participate in such an activity not knowing that it is what it is, cruel and barbaric, but he still did because he obviously derived much pleasure from it. He is sorry he got caught and is trying to spin things to somehow salvage something later.
