Michael Vick takes the first step toward trying to repair his shattered image. After pleading guilty to a federal dogfighting charge,
"First I want to apologize for all the things that I've done and that I have allowed to happen," the star quarterback said at a news conference following his appearance in U.S. District Court to formally enter the plea.
Sentencing was set for Dec. 10 and Vick could be sent to prison for one to five years. Vick was suspended indefinitely by the NFL last week.

In Atlanta, the Falcons said they would not cut Vick immediately because of salary-cap issues. The team intends to pursue the $22 million in bonus money that he already received in a record $130 million contract signed in 2004.
"We cannot tell you today that Michael is cut from the team," owner Arthur Blank said. "It may feel better emotionally for us and many of our fans, but it's not in the long-term best interests of the franchise."
Vick made his first public statements on the dogfighting ring and said:
"I made a mistake of using bad judgment and making bad decisions. Those things just can't happen. Dogfighting is a terrible thing, and I do reject it."He singled out NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Blank, coach Bobby Petrino and his teammates for personal apologies, saying "I was not honest and forthright in our discussions."

He also apologized to "all the young kids out there for my immature acts and what I did - and what I did was very immature. So that means I need to grow up."
"I totally ask for forgiveness and understanding as I move forward to bettering Michael Vick the person, not the football player," he said.
He concluded by saying, "I offer my deepest apologies to everyone. And I will redeem myself. I have to."

Bit late there hose...when you are forced to apologize for image sake, it doesn't really get it done.

Now if he said, I will volunteer for 2,000 hrs at the Humane Society after I do my time...I would call it more of an apology...it would carry some weight then.

He is sorry - no doubt about that. Sorry he got caught - are we to believe he would not be fighting dogs today if not for the accidental finding's on his property?

It's obvious Vick is sorry he was caught. If he was in any way sincere about being sorry, he would have issued apologies from the get go instead of waiting to see if the feds had any evidence.

As has been mentioned, we cant be sure if he is sincere or not until afterwards when we see what he is doing with his life.

Having said that, nah, he's not sincere. More like I am sorry I got caught, there goes my cool lifestyle, and I am losing all kinds of money from my jersey sales (so I am sorry kids) and I'm not really all that tough so prison isnt going to be a whole lot of fun for me.

I bet he has 2 years in jail and a minumum of 1 year suspension to get his life in order.

Yeah, but he is going to make a killing writing the comeback book and then lecturing others about what a butt head he was...we haven't seen the last of him...

well, as much as i dont like him as a QB (or a human being at this point) i really hope he turns it around ....... i seriously dont want him to come out of jail more of a thug then he is now ........ Lord knows he can make some bad connections in the slammer
