Michael Vick's father said he pushed his son to quit dogfighting years ago or, at least, put property used for the fights in the name of friends to avoid being implicated some day.
Michael Boddie, in two sometimes tearful interviews with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week, said some time around 2001 his son staged dogfights in the garage of the family's home in Newport News, Va. Boddie also said Vick kept fighting dogs in the family's backyard, including injured ones — "bit up, chewed up, exhausted" — that the father nursed back to health.Boddie, who is estranged from his son, dismissed the idea that Vick's longtime friends were the main instigators of the dogfighting operation.
"I wish people would stop sugarcoating it," Boddie said. "This is Mike's thing. And he knows it."
He "likes it, and he has the capital to have a set up like that."

I suppose if Michael were supporting him, he'd almost have to have a different story.
But the article says they were estranged, and he had to nurse dogs back to health. Maybe that is why they were estranged. Come on, he didnt like what his son was doing, but Mike is still his son. These sort of things always hurt parents. They always wonder what they did wrong.

I concur with bette, I think maybe he didnt like his actions and/ or lifestyle, its not always 'cause of money..

Well, I guess he loves him soooooo much, that he is going to get his name in the paper saying how Mikey has been doing it for a while...and how he is the better person...man, I am glad my dad doesn't love me like that. My dad would have quietly taken a 4X4 knocked me on the side of the head and said, "I hope I just knocked some sense into you son...and if I catch you playing with dogs again you ain't gonna no what hit ya..." But the press...naw...my old man knows how to be a dad.

ok 2 things here, 1, how do we know that the press hasnt hounded the father to speak on the matter? 2, my dad had this leather belt that had silver holes in it, I hated that belt in middle school, suprisingly I made very good grades in high school..

My dad was the dumbest guy on the planet until I turned 25 or so and realize he was probably one of the brightest...go figure...
