Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

Michael Vick's representatives plan to try to arrange a meeting between the Atlanta Falcons quarterback and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before Goodell decides what discipline the league will impose on Vick, sources familiar with Vick's case said yesterday.
NFL officials said that Goodell has not decided what punishment to impose on Vick, whose legal team announced Monday that he had agreed to plead guilty to the federal dogfighting charges against him. The proposed plea agreement, if it is accepted by the judge in the case, would put Vick in violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy, which empowers Goodell to fine, suspend or impose a lifetime ban on an offending player.

Hey Roger, sorry I lied to you man..

Lifetime ban? Nah, that'd be crazy. Something like that should be reserved for murderers or something of the very utmost severity, I think. Anything that comes with a two-decade prison sentance or something of that ilk. What do you good folks think?

Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

I think if it smells like poop it is likely poop. Goodell must send a message - no poop allowed in the NFL.

I hope he gets 18 months in the federal pokey and 24 months suspension - but I'm bitter. He has given the NFL, Goodell, Arthur Blank, the Falcons and city of Atlanta the stink of poop.

Pete Rose didn't kill anything and is still paying the price - Vick killed mans best friend.

I agree...the whole thing is out of proportion...heck we have people who have killed other people (DUI related etc) walking around the NFL now...suspend the man...but ban him from the league?...might as well ban a good 10-15% of the league with him.

PS...likewise a lifetime ban on Rose was stupid...did Karras or Hornung receive lifetime bans from the NFl for gambling in the 70's?...hardly...I think they got a year.

Sure, Rose's ban was excessive, guys, but let's not forget - he willingly signed off on it. He could've contested it. So considering that, his situation and Vick's situation really aren't comparable.

Vick is going to sign off on something far more damning.

Cool Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

Hey wait a miinute, Vick has a defender:

Quote:
Stephon Marbury on Monday defended Michael Vick and said the Falcons quarterback, who the same day pleaded guilty to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge, "is a good human being."

"We don't say anything about people shooting deers and shooting other animals, you know what I mean?" Marbury said in an interview that was aired by Capital News 9 in Albany. "From what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors and I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down ... I think he fell into a bad situation."
Marbury says Vick 'is a good human being' -- Newsday.com

Boy, I know Marbury played a year at Georgia Tech, but how did he get into college? He's a moron.

The "hood mentality" strikes again. Crumpler. Emmit Smith, Prime Time, Porter, Horn etc. are all defending him as well

Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

Like it or not professional sports figures are held to a higher standard. When one fails to maintain at least the minimum standard many fans get upset and want what is right. True, Michale Vick did not take the life of another human. So for that he should not be banned for life ??? Pete Rose merely hurt the image of baseball and his own personal value to society. Michael Vick killed animals against any valid reason. Now add in a justice system that sets standards that it refuses to maintain. Someone will be on trial for a specific crime but if they can cut a deal for something less then they will plea to that. The actual crime and punishment for it get swept away. If in fact Vick was a part of this heinous crime against animals then I say we do not need people like him being held high on a platform they do not deserve. How about the same fate for him as he demanded of the dogs.

Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

If Todd Bertuzzi and Marty McSorely didn't get lifetime bans from the NHL for their assaults on human beings, then I don't think Michael Vick should get a lifetime ban from the NFL for what he's done. Heck, for the record I don't think Rae Carruth was given a lifetime ban, and he was found guilty of crimes involving the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, for which he is serving an 18 year prison sentence - far longer than the maximum sentence Vick faces under the charges he's facing. Were the crimes heinous? Yes, but there's no way he shold be given a lifetime ban.

Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

Suspending Rea would have been redundant if he is serving 18 years.

I don't think it will be necessary to suspend Vick for life as I can't think of a team that would take on the baggage and resulting PETA protest.

I also think dog fighting may run deeper in the NFL than any other sport - therefore Goodell will send a message.

Come on...I really believe that the only reason Rose signed anything is cause he had an undertanding that it would not be a lifetime ban. Had he known that...no way in hell he signs anything...The man (according to his books) really thought he had a deal that would be reviewed in a year or two with the commish...should have gotten it in writing...still lifetime...Karras and Hornung 1 year...does make sense.

Exactly!...Assualt a human, slap on the wrist...kill a dog your career is over...a bit out of whack...maybe it's PETA's world and we are just living on it...

Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

No, not a lifetime ban. Not for this.
If he spends 18 months in prison, then gets suspended for a year at least, and at that time not allowed any where near the NFL, he's going to have 2 and a half years with no connection and no where to train except on his own. I would think that his career in effect is over. And if some team does in the future take him and after all that he manages to make a comeback, maybe he deserves it. Those will be some very, very tough odds. He will have to fight as hard as those dogs did to make it.
This was outrageous but dont confuse human life and animal life.

Re: Vick Seeks Meeting With Commissioner

To tell ya the truth I dont think its an issue whether he gets banned from the NFL, if he goes to jail which will probably be 2-5 yrs, not counting hes facing up to 40 yrs with poindexters case, He will be out of the loop so long he'll be lucky to get on with canada..heck after he gets done with the jail hes gonna atleast get 1 yr suspension from the NFL which only starts after hes released..theres a chance all be it a very small one we see vick in a pro game anytime soon...
