Breaking news, Vick is in court as I type accepting a plea agreement from the federal government for his involvement in conspiracy dog fighting charges.

A press conference should be held soon.

This report says Vick is accepting a plea deal that would bring 18-36 months in prison and avoid additional federal charges.

Monday the 25 of August will be the big day for Mike. The actual plea hearing will be on that day. ESPN has said that no details will be made public. Not sure if that is just for now or for the long term.

I heard something on ESPN about Arthur Blank acting quickly and cutting Vick. Anyone hear about this? Is this a plan or something else?

I really think if his "buddies" would have not rolled on him, he would have continued to play the innocent party. But now the heat is on and there was a chance of more charges, so he did the smart thing and took the deal. It's shame that so much talent is waisted.

On another note, maybe we can get a real life version of "The Longest Yard" in production starring Michael Vick. That would be a great reality show.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that Michael Vick has accepted a plea deal on federal conspiracy charges. But it's more than just a guilty plea. Vick is admitting that he did it. A statement from lawyer Billy Martin reads as follows:"After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick ask that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with Federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him. Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of Guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologizes again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter. The legal team and Mr. Vick will appear in court in Richmond on August 27th."

It's unclear whether the deal includes any type of commitment from the NFL as to Vick's possible suspension, or any commitment from authorities in Virginia regarding possible charges for animal cruelty arising from eight dogs that were killed on Vick's property in April 2007, the same month in which Vick told the Commissioner that there was no dog fighting on his Surry County, Virginia property. If Vick's formal plea documents include an admission that he participated in the killings of the dogs, he's certain to face even more jail time in Virginia, where the total penalty will be up to 40 years.

The plea will be entered on August 27, at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

I don't know Lefty. Let's say the soonest Vick can play in the NFL is 09-2010 (jail for 2007-08, suspended for 2008-09). Some team I'm sure would take a flyer and see what he has left.

I guess time will tell. I hear the sentence could be a maximum of 5 years. If that happens, he's done. Two seasons is the most he can afford to miss, I think, and still have anyone even remotely interested in him.
