The Falcons won't know if backup quarterback D.J. Shockley will play again this season until Sunday, following a consultation of team trainers and doctors.
Shockley injured his knee while running during Atlanta's 13-10 preseason victory over Buffalo Friday night. His undetermined status adds another layer of uncertainty to a position that was thrown into disarray when Matt Schaub was traded to Houston, starter Michael Vick was indicted on federal dogfighting charges and Joey Harrington was forced into the starting role.Shockley had an MRI Saturday. The initial diagnosis was a sprain but the possibility was left open that he could have suffered more serious ligament damage.
"Obviously, he was distraught," Harrington said after Friday's game. "That's not anything you'd like to ever have happen. We're all pulling for him in his recovery. From the looks of things, it may be a little while before he gets playing again."
Shockley was 4-of-5 for 46 yards passing and added 18 yards rushing on three carries. He was replaced by second-stringer chris redman.
