So we have a felon who turned states evidence in an investigation (nothing new there; police are making plea bargains like that all the time with people they consider "small fried" to get to the central figures). If a lawyer can discredit him, so be it. But if people can't jump to conclusions about Vick based on heresay, why can they instantly discredit this guy? You can't have it both ways.
I believe in fair and balance...thus I end up on the opposite side of a lot of threads...why do I attack the witness?...so I can say, "hey now wait a second gang, lets look at the whole landscape...something doesn't smell right in Denmark"...

Lets look at the statement "small fry"...2,000 fights!...that is a fight a night for 6+ years...that is no small fry...what you might mean, is, the guy is not a "Big Name Celeb" that will give a DA a proper pelt on his wall of fame...But small fry?...really now, do you believe that?

Probably 2,000 dogs died violently at the hands of this animal of a human being and he is a "small fry?"...I am willing to bet that he can rack up 10 times the charges of animal cruelty that Vick can rack up...but is it really about that?...or is it about the big pelt on a DA's wall?...

What?...was Sammy the Bull Gravano any less an Animal then John Gotti?...No...Infact while in the Federal Protection Program...the Bull got busted for running a drug ring in Phoenix...so much for Mr. states evidence...

2,000 fights mean he was around long before Vick I will venture to say...so why is this a big case all of a sudden?...does it sound like they are targeting animal abusers really, or going after a name that surfaced?...

I say the motivation is no different then the Duke case...the outcome might be different...Vick may actually be involved afterall...but you can't tell me that this whole thing passes the smell test...

Now we're getting silly. We're not talking leashes and doggie biscuits here. According to police reports, among the items seized from the home were: "66 dogs, treadmills, sticks to pry open dogs' locked jaws, a blood-stained pit and medical supplies."

According to John Goodwin, the Humane Society's deputy manager for dogfighting issues, "The bloody carpet, all of the training equipment, even if you could excuse away every piece of training equipment, you still can't get around that bloody carpet...Then, OK, he said the thing about he didn't know anything about it. All they've got to do is call in as a witness the women who work at the [nearby] store to testify that he's in the town all of the time buying syringes at her store. That right there blows away any claim that he didn't know anything about it."

Furthermore, if they can prove nothing else than Vick knew his cousin was holding dogfights, he will face felony charges in the state of Virginia. Under that state's law, "Participating in dogfights or knowingly allowing them on your property is a felony."

Would love to see all the "non Vick" related conviction for the same activity in the county or state jsut for kicks...cause I mean, it's a state where a guy with +2,000 fights is never really caught up with...Would really love to see those stats that will say to me, "it's not about Vick, it's about the laws of the state damn it"....anyone?...anyone have the stats?...

Well, all I know is that 66 dogs were seized. According to what John Goodwin of the Humane Society told the Atlanta Journal Constituion, "That's a lot of dogs... That's a huge game-dog operation. It's usually significantly less than that." So if Vick fought every dog just once a week, that's over 300 in one year alone, and I swear I read somewhere that he's been doing it since his senior year at Virginia Tech, so it would add up fast. Kind of makes that 2,000 lifetime look not quite so big now, doesn't it?

That said, I agree COMPLETELY with you about the motivation being the same as the Duke case. That's why, amidst all the media furor and the fan outcry, I applaud the prosecutor for not rushing into things. No one has been charged yet, and they want to make sure they have their facts straight. Bravo for that, I say.

If that turns out to be the case...both animals belong in the same cage...

Looking and looking, but I can't find it. The only thing I've found of interest is figures from the Humane Society that claim that 40,000 people are involved in the blood sport and 250,000 pit bulls are used. Also in West Palm Beach there is an undated article talking about their biggest dog-fighting bust ever - 60 arrests, 12 dogs, $89,000 in cash and an unspecified amount of drugs. Oh, and even being a spectator is illegal in 49 of 50 states. All but Wyoming. Go figure.

Trust me, if someone like Brett Favre gets caught chicken fighting, there'll be 8,000 threads all about that too.

See that's my point...that much is claimed...where are the freakin convictions to go with it?...they, for better or worse, are in it for a big scalp...I really wish it was about the law and the protection of animals, but I see it as a, "hey we can get us a big name celeb to hang on our wall."

Naw, see you are a small fish...a DA can't make a name off you...if you were somebody big, then you know, the pitbull could not play with the rottie...or you would make the news...

It would appear that you view is pretty narrow if that is all the news you can find. In the forum that I frequent the most we have one person who takes a beating with every move he makes ... guilty or not.

What you really need to keep in mind is that no one has been charged. All you are reading and seeing is nothing more than the media twisting you view point. If you allow them to do that you should be ashamed. Right now it is a story that sells TV time and magazines.

Call me when you've got something real.

Re: When will the hammer drop on Vick

Accusations that Mike Vick is a dog-fighting "heavyweight" have landed him new representation.
